High-level research in cybersecurity is conducted at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi(UQAC) by a team of experienced professors from the Department of Computer Science and Mathematics, which also contributes to the training of highly qualified personnel in this field. The problem is complex and we believe that it requires a joint effort by all stakeholders in Quebec society. It is in this spirit that UQAC is joining Cybereco to contribute to an innovative and avant-garde cybersecurity ecosystem.
The very strong penetration of information and communication technologies in everyday life as well as the growing complexity of these applications have been noticeable over the last decade. Thus, there has been a significant increase in the number of lines of code in applications. With this also comes a greater risk associated with the security of programs. Indeed, there have been multiple hacking problems that have led to ransom payments. Beyond the fact that many have had to pay ransoms to recover their data, it should be noted that the consequences of these attacks can be considerable. It should be noted that one of the solutions found to respond to this type of attack is in the analysis of the traces to search for the private encryption key used by the ransomware. Thus, it is understandable that research in this area is required to prevent the chaotic scenarios often put forward by Hollywood from becoming reality. The expertise developed by UQAC researchers contributes to the further development of active research in this field.
Founded in 1969, the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi is located in the heart of Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean. With the success of its 60,000 graduates, UQAC welcomes 6,500 students each year, including more than 1,500 from some 50 countries around the world. Renowned for the close relationship that exists between its students and professors, UQAC offers a unique experience and more than 200 study programs. In terms of research, the institution is recognized as one of the most productive universities in terms of what is being done in the field of partnership research in Quebec. Throughout its history, it has developed several research niches, which has allowed it to distinguish itself throughout the world.
